Boy! What an experience

Finally…..I’m home.

In general,  Alabama is not my favorite place (bad memories) but because I love my sister, I was committed to helping her be as prepared as possible.  She was so tired when it was time to go to the hospital and there was very little we could do to help her through this process…..birth is a solitary (sorta) activity.

John and Amy

just prior to surgery

After several hours of laboring and making little progress, the decision was made to proceed with a cesarean section.   Sister #1 (an RN in charge of Women and Infant Services in her hospital in Phoenix) was always close and monitoring the situation.  She also was allowed to accompany our brother-in-law into the delivery room, (what a joy for her to be able to see our nephew enter the world).  Everything went well, baby arrived healthy and all was right with the world.

Sis #3 stayed in the hospital for a few days and she was able to get some much-needed advice on how to take care of herself and her special little bouncing, crying, pooping, sleeping, eating bundle of joy.  We have all enjoyed walking through this process and seeing our youngest sister experience her long time desire to be a mother.  Seeing our own Mama, the matriarch of our family, embrace her first grand son was also lots of fun to watch.

Micah and Amy

This pix was taken right after she got back into the room following surgery.  She was in that “I can’t believe he’s really here” moment.

Mama and her grandSON

Mama could hardly believe it either.  She couldn’t keep her lips off of the child.  We have all been so blessed to have her with us as each of the 6 grandkids were born.  She provides a nice balance in a chaotic time in life.  It is wonderful to have her wisdom, experience and her willingness to share those things with us.  She is always able to give a different perspective on many things and she has such a graceful way of conveying her thoughts.  Though she is not in the best of health, she gives all she has and can always be counted on for prayer covering.

John and MicahJohn, too, has been a real trooper.  It is funny to see this huge man cuddling this tiny little baby and see how mushy he gets when he holds his son.  Precious.

Our time with sis #3 has been quite an experience for us all.  Her son is just so sweet.  I wish they were closer so I could spend more time with them all.  It will be interesting raising a boy in the family because before now we only knew how to marry them, not birth them! Can’t wait to see what the Lord has in store for this little family’s future.

Updates to follow.

Blessings,

Selena
